Kings Mutual Century Center

The Kings Mutual Century Center “KMCC” or to many locals the Apple Dome is a very unique facility, possibly the largest of its kind that is owned and operated by a volunteer board of directors known as the Berwick & District Community Association.

KMCC originally opened its doors in the fall of 2010 upon the completion of Phase I (Arena, Walking Track and Lions Club). It all began as a conversation at a local coffee shop in which the arena manager, Bob Best told two others around the table. George Moody and Brian Morse “We need a new rink” and so it began. Volunteers went door to door collecting donations from the community. After a few years a large donation from Kings Mutual Insurance Company in the amount of 1 million dollars was accepted and the Kings Mutual Century Center was established. Along with Kings Mutual, the land was donated by the Easson Familiy and the community came together to raise 1/3 of the total cost. The provincial and federal governments matched the donations from the community, County of Kings, Town of Berwick and Kings Mutual Insurance so construction began.

Before Phase I was completed fundraising for Phase II had begun which was most recently completed in the fall of 2018 with the addition of the Larsen Curling Center, Willowdale Fitness Center and a Wellness Center.

The names of all those generous donators are proudly displayed in the main lobby of the KMCC, which is updated yearly. The KMCC continues to accept donations to help maintain this great facility. The hope is that with the help of the community and local businesses Berwick & District Community Association will be able to continue to provide access to a space that promotes a healthy living lifestyle to this generation and into the future.
