Sport, recreation and special events are integral components of the lifestyle of Berwick and
area residents for decades. The Berwick and District Arena has been a focal point for these activities
since 1952, hosting thousands of people for hockey, ringette, skating, dances, shows, festivals, exhibitions
and countless other public events. Owned and operated by the Berwick and District Community Association, the
arena has reached the end of its useful life.
Early in the new millennium, it became apparent that the community would have to plan, finance and construct a new facility
or be without an asset that is so important to the health and well-being of its citizens. To this end, the Berwick and District
Community Association formed the Apple Dome Committee which set out as its mission to: Build for the well being of Berwick and
district residents, a financially sustainable facility, including an ice surface, on a site suitable for present and future
recreational needs.
